Description

The HomeWizard Wi-Fi P1 dongle is an 88 × 46 × 15 mm, 60 g accessory for a smart electricity meter: it plugs into its P1 port and sends the readings of a single-phase or three-phase supply over the home Wi-Fi. It is intended for a house with a Teltonika Energy EVC2 charging station: the station learns from the dongle how much power the house is drawing and limits the charging current so that the main breaker is not overloaded. The dongle needs no current transformers or wiring – it hangs on the meter indoors (IP51).

Connection to the meter and power supply

The dongle suits smart meters with a P1 port (RJ12). The manufacturer states that modern meters in Lithuania have such a port and work with the dongle, but the readings are updated once per minute. SMR5-standard meters power the dongle through the P1 port itself (the ring pulses white once plugged in); if your meter does not, a separately purchased USB-C power supply is needed – it is not in the box.

Dynamic load management with Teltonika EVC2

In the Teltonika Energy EVC2 documentation the HomeWizard P1 is listed as a supported network meter. The dongle is joined to the home Wi-Fi through the HomeWizard Energy app, and the station to the same network by Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable. In the Teltonika Energy app, load balancing is switched on, the model “HomeWizard P1” is selected, the dongle's IP address is entered and the maximum permitted supply load is set. For other Teltonika models we verify compatibility before the order.

Data in the app and on the local network

In the HomeWizard Energy app (iOS 13 / Android 8 and newer) you see import from the grid, export to it and 12 months of history (per-phase graphs only with the paid Energy+ subscription). The dongle has an open local JSON API: once it is enabled in the app, home automation on the local network reads power per phase, voltage, current and the cumulative import and export readings. The link is Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n (WPA2/WPA3), encryption is 128-bit AES and TLS, and security updates are installed automatically.

Installation and warranty

You install it yourself: plug the dongle into the P1 port and join it to Wi-Fi in the app – the ring flashes blue during pairing and turns green when the connection is made. The box contains the dongle and a quick-start guide. The manufacturer, HomeWizard B.V. (the Netherlands), gives a 2-year warranty.
